Qian Julie took me on a journey the last few days: A journey to a part of New York City I didn’t know anything about. I learned how it was, and probably still is, to live and grow up as an undocumented family in the “beautiful country” America—not knowing the language, being hungry and always living in fear of deportation. And this is not only the case in the USA, but also here in Germany and in many other “rich” countries all over the world. I couldn’t agree more with Qian Julie: “I dream of a day when being recognized as human requires no luck—when it is a right, not a privilege.“ I want to thank her for taking me with her on this journey back to her childhood and to Hillary Frey for recommending this book to me. I hope a German publisher brings it here soon!
